On November 5, 2016 the next edition of Metal Against Child Cancer will take place. Last year I attended the event and I had a lot of fun seeing the likes of Ostrogoth, FireForce and Eternal Breath play there. This year, unfortunately, I've already got another festival planned that same day but I did buy a ticket because, as the festival's name suggests, you contribute to fighting cancer!
But who says that contributing to charity can't be fun as well? Let's take a look at the seven bands Brecht Debrouwere, host of MACC 2016, has on offer for
you:
[BAND 1: AT THE FRONT]
You enjoy
Sepultura or Pantera? Then you'll enjoy MACC 2016's opening band called At The
Front. Slow and hard-hitting guitar riffs with grunting vocals makes this
another excellent band to rage out against that dragon called cancer. I saw
them at Devils Rock for an Angel this year and it was great!
[BAND 2: IRONBORN]
Old-school
headbangers will be very happy with Ironborn, as they provide covers of iconic
heavy metal songs like Walk from Pantera, Tornado of Souls from Megadeth, Whole
Lottta Rosie from AC/DC and Creeping Death by Metallica! Not only that, but
they also provide some original material similar in vein as these
aforementioned bands. You can find a demo version of one of their own songs below.
[BAND 3: AäXOR]
For this
band MACC's organizer Brecht is going to get on stage himself together with
four other guys to treat us with some nice technical heavy metal. Despite the
band's early existence Aäxor consists of former members of well-established
bands like Eternal Breath, Murderset Pieces and Gae Bolga so the guys know
their shit. Check it out!
[BAND 4: CADUCITY]
A veteran
death metal band going on for over 26 years. It's dark and gritty metal with guttural vocals, shrieking guitars and brutally pounding drums. However, the
sound still has a heroic feel to it that's quite unique to the death metal subgenre.
Certainly a fun band to see on stage.
[BAND 5: KROSSBREED]
Bone
crushing metal, that's how Krossbreed describe their sound, simply because they
don't really fit into an generic metal subgenre. And I respect that, because
the band has a unique, harsh feel to them. I'd say it has some death metal,
thrash metal and groove metal to it, but none of these aforementioned subgenres
takes full center stage. But I like it and I believe so will you.
[BAND 6: AFTER ALL]
The
penultimate band on MACC 2016's roster is a band plays thrash metal on a very
technical level. If you think about the great stuff the Big 4 of thrash metal
unleashed to our eardrums in the 1980s then After All will be an excellent
throwback to those times. And also make sure to buy some official After Ale
beer at the band's merch booth. It's good!
[BAND 7: ITHILIEN]
The headliner
for MACC 2016 is a very different beast compared to the bands that came before
them. Ithilien takes the typical heavy metal arsenal of vocals, guitars, bass
and drums and adds bagpipes, violin and hurdy-gurdy to the mix. The result is catchy,
epic melodic folk metal. Excellent music to dance and to drink to. And that's
what going to a metal gig is all about!
[CONCLUSION]
{I'd say
there's a lot to like during Metal Against Child Cancer 2016. There's old
school heavy metal, brooding death metal and epic folk metal. You can't go
wrong going to this event. And remember that you're supporting charity as well! Metal beats cancer!}
