[INTRODUCTION]

Review and pictures by Glenn Schrijvers.

After the release of their most recent singles “Groove” and “Those Days” it was finally time for to celebrate 10 years of the celebrated hardcore act Fatal Move with support from other talented acts in the form of Mark My Way, Mindwar and Surge Of Fury!

No better location to celebrate than in the Trix in Antwerp, just a spit away from Merksem, the town where Fatal Move rose from the ashes. In the past 10 years they released 3 straight in your face albums: Barfight (2013), (which was a split album with Johnny Unstoppable), Blindfolded (2015) and Somewhere Between Life And Death (2019). The band consists of Ziggy Coertjens delivering harsh vocals that destroys everything in its path, Joeri Heggerick, destroyer of drumsticks and master of epic facial expressions, Ruige Kenny delivering riffs with looks that kill, Thomas Luyten, unleasher of fury bass lines and Jens Mrqn, bringer of melodic riffs with his signature stank face!

This menacing outfit has played shows in countries like England, France, The Netherlands… spreading their love and hate for this sometimes forsaken fucked up world through music with ferocious breakdowns gig by gig. They shared stages with national and international talents like Brothers Till I Die, Off The Cross, Born From Pain, Anti-Flag and many more! This Summer Fatal Move will be performing on festivals like Dour and Triple 6 Fest so be sure to support our local hardcore heroes!

[MARK MY WAY]

Hailing out of the H8000 area (region of West-Flanders known for its vivid 1990s hardcore scene spearheaded by bands like Congress and Liar). Mark My Way is part of a new generation of bands inspired by the original H8000 scene to bring us metallic hardcore with hip hop influences. In the past they shared stages with bands like iconic acts like Hatebreed, Nasty, Hacktivist, Dog Eat Dog and E. Town Concrete.

During their gig at the Trix Mark My Way started their set on the small stage in front of the bar with a decent audience for an opener and they kicked off with “Justification."  Meanwhile the crowd kept flowing in while the frontman kept spitting out harsh vocals. The crowd was saving their energy for upcoming bands but there were a few with zero fucks and who went in to kick off the moshing and two stepping! This early crowd enthusiasm gave the band more momentum and resulted in them bringing more havoc on stage. Mark My Way delivered pounding breakdowns, harsh hardcore vocals, high pitched screams and headbanging riffs!

They played songs like “Overlooked,” “Vae Victis” and “Eyes See You Through” (one guy really went berserk on this song). Personally I really enjoyed their aggressive sound adding high pitched screams with their hardcore sound. In 2020 the band released their latest album "Thin The Herd" which Stijn "Metal Shredder" reviewed so check it out if you want to know more about this band: https://www.belgianmetalshredder.be/reviews/220

[MINDWAR]

Next up was Mindwar, a 5-piece moshing squad originating from Lokeren and unleashing groovy and melodic riffs with no nonsense hardcore with a possibility of raining blood and flying teeth. They just released their brand-new EP ‘Still At War’ containing 10 tracks with the same power of an nuclear bomb (making a review of that gem soon). Mindwar shared stages with Primal Truth, Terror, Stillbirth and Arkangel. The venue was really getting packed when these guys were playing!

Mindwar wasted no second and unleashed “The Declaration” on the audience! The crowd decided to let their energy loose on the dance floor with a cluster ball of moshers! Frontman Anthony had this rare energy and vibe that set the whole venue in fire with his fury adrenaline driven vocals and jumping and kicking on stage and occasionally letting the crowd sing along on this testosterone driven freight train demolishing the venue brick by brick. Mindwar unleashed a warzone midset with friendly crowd killing (unintentional hurt), side to sides, moshing, headbanging and two stepping! They played songs like “Empty Values”, “My Revenge” and “Never Again”. Mindwar caused for Acta Non Verba, the audience was ready for more! This was the third time I was enjoying their warfare and I'm still hungry for more…

[SURGE OF FURY]

After a short break it was high time for Surge Of Fury from Liège to deliver fast paced ear crushing hardcore just like they had being doing since 1997! Not motivated by fame, money or anything other than the raw hardcorre passion they feel. Not seeking approval, but only following their hearts!

Surge Of Fury shared stages with Prowl, Monasteries, Stab and Better Be Dead. Frontman Tito unleashed his force-driving vocals upon the crowd that resulted in a vicious huge mosh pit. The whole set was an action movie on steroids fueled by Red Bull thanks to the stagedivers, mosh pits, circle pits, sides to fucking sides, two stepping, ground stomping on the nervonic crushing breakdowns and Tito letting the crowd sing along! They played songs like “Boogiedown”, “LGHC” and “Steady and Proud” and succeeded in making the crowd going the extra mile, getting everyone warmed up for the headlining act that was to follow soon after!

[FATAL MOVE]

Then came the moment everybody was waiting for! With a crowd of approximately 250 people yelling Fatal Move, said band kicked off with “Redefine” and the Antwerp loving misfits were here on a mission, breaking down the venue with a smile! During the anthem song “Groove” the crowd lost their minds on the breakdowns and singing along the words ‘Feel The Groove!’

Vocalist Ziggy was an unstoppable relentless harsh spitting machine fueled by Monster energy drink and pure adrenaline, guitaist Ruige Kenny headbanging and bringing riffs, bassist Thomas swinging and yelling, drummer Jens yelling and giving the stank face and second guitarist Joeri going nuts with his inexhaustible energy and facial expressions!

It was Fatal Move at their finest in every way of the word. The crowd went all out and beyond on “Those Days” with vocal appearance of Tito from Surge Of Fury with moshing, singing, two stepping, side to side, crowd surfing and stage divers. Fatal Move played songs like “Virtual World”, “Cold & Relentless”, “Dirty Rat” and “Forgive To Forget." What else can I say, Fatal Move provided one hell of a hardcore party to remembered for a very long time!

[CONCLUSION]

{All things considered, Fatal Move went all out on their 10 years celebration and giving everything they got! With amazing support of Mark My Way, Mindwar and Surge Of Fury! Everybody both in the audience, on stage and backstage went home with smiles on their faces after having a blast with singing, dancing, moshing, two stepping, side to side, crowd surfing and stage diving the perfect cocktail of an amazing night 2170 style! Extra credits to the people behind the scenes for making this an awesome event that nobody will soon forget, now let's head towards another 10 years of Fatal Move!
